To be an African male in America is to be a frustrated man. To be an Africanmale is to be an angry male; an enraged man, whether or not the anger andrage are consciously acknowledged. For many African American men, thesefeelings lie deeply submerged beneath layers of repression and hidden behindan unperturbable or friendly facade, only finding outlet and expression in ahundred ordinary annoyances and pretty gripes. For many African Americanmen, these feelings lie preconsciously beneath a deceptively inscrutablepublic persona, strenuously held there by social and religious inhibitionsand fears of injurious or deadly consequences should those feelings be"inappropriately" revealed or repressed.Pg.117

Tell Lies Vision! LOL

01:34:12
One feels his two-ness, — an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.

Those who need it the most, will receive it the least!

01:36:27
I highly recommend “Self-Healing Power and Therapy; Old Teachings from Africa” by Kimbwandende Kia Bunseki Fu-Kiau. I learned so much about my ability to heal myself after decades of exposure to many of the things Dr. Palmer is speaking about! Access to an excellent therapist who understands the impact of racism on my mind, body, and spirit is important! Think, all the trauma we have survived, and still we thrive!

01:38:31
Thanks for that resource, Dr. Rose!

01:39:43
Wow thank you for sharing Dr. Rose just added it to my Amazon list

01:44:10

01:56:48
Changing my narrative required that I determine what “my” values are! Until I knew what I stood for as it related to family, career, friendships, I could not imagine a narrative different from thence I was born to live. I have the power to create, change and transform my narrative whenever I want!

01:58:07
Thank you all for attending!

01:58:36
@Lind Rose Powerful!

01:58:54

What has been your experience with racism and what was your last black moment or situation where you reminded that you were black?

02:04:49
When I was at the store yesterday.

02:06:37
reminded i am black...today..not necessarily negative..i know store cashier remember me because if ny race

02:09:01
I am reminded, every time I look in the mirror!

02:10:49
I’m reminded that I’m “not white” every time I see protestors in my city carrying flags that say “blue lives matter”, and “trump 2020”. We have a patriot corner in Yorba Linda.

02:12:19
It's awful, Daisy. I live in YL too.

02:12:44
Yup, its “real nice” to see when I’m eating lunch in the town center.

02:13:39
Even worse when I see the sheriff department standing in the parking lot with no masks, just chit chatting.

Question for Dr. Palmer: I can relate to the stigmatism of mental health or PTSD within the community and family unit. What are your suggestions to open up the conversation within our community and families?

02:20:05
George Floyd Meme by LAPD!!

02:20:28
lol, those voices are "the committee." Meditation teaches me to ignore the committee and center back on being mindful.

Deep Fried Pork Chops!

02:25:36
Latinos face the same stigma when it comes to therapy and mental health. I’ve found that “telling your own story” with mental health and therapy is a powerful tool when speaking with someone about this topic. It helps ease their anxieties and normalizes that experience.

02:25:55
Thank you both!
