SCCRC - South Central Coast Regional Consortium (SCCRC)
CDE - California Department of Education
COE - Center of Excellence
CTE - Career and Technical Education
Can you leave last slide up
Did the data also take into account the cost of living in our region? Students are not staying in our region for some of these fields because they cannot afford to live here.
Good point Tiffany— we only included living wage middle skill jobs and above in order to account for cost of living
I would like to consider what alignment looks like both regionally and statewide across all industry sectors.
Yes, absolutely Kimberly! We have done analysis for other regions in CA that you certainly could reference
Here is the link to the Center of Excellence (COE) page of our regional website. There you will find COVID updates and other labor market data. https://sccrcolleges.org/resources/centers-of-excellence/
Where will this PPT be available on that site or separately?
Hi Valerie! It will be posted on the SCCRC along with supplements on Tuesday
Hybrid skills and pivoting between career opportunities is a must have skill that needs to be learned early rather than as a reaction to job loss and economic shift
Thank you for the opportunity to participate this afternoon. Regrettably, I have another meeting to attend; my apologies. Have a great and safe extended Labor Day weekend, all!
parents and family friends are big determinant in major choice
followed by friends
Thanks Kathy, good points
And what they’re seeing as ‘success’ on social media
for lower income groups it is the counsellors who have the bigger influence
Good Point Tiffany
Research shows career decision making influencers are parents, then teachers, then counselors, in that order. This is why exposing all teachers to labor market information is very important. They have way more face time with students than counselors.
Excellent share Karen
Thank you Karen. Great point. We need to reach parents and instructors.
Yes, great point.
Your points are well taken, Kathy and demonstrates the reasons why the work is critical to addressing equity gaps in education and income
Encourage you all to use this online resource to hone in on living wage where you live: https://insightcced.org/2018-family-needs-calculator/
Can we have the link to these?
Yes they will all be released Tuesday at the latest
Monday is a holiday :)n
