@Teresa, Thank you for putting the "ask" to all faculty

Faculty: you can check your rosters in Starfish to see if you have students who haven't yet registered or who haven't hit the momentum points. Starfish auto-raises some of those flags for you so your work will then only to ping the student and see if they can take one more class. We highly recommend promoting the Golden Four for ADT students - English, math, critical thinking, and communication. There are many courses open.

Students look up to their discipline faculty. Faculty reaching out to the students in their classes, specifically majors, have the most impact on student progression and completion. :)

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

Bakersfield College's growth averaged about 5-6 percent a year over the past 6 years. The normal growth increase during an economic downturn is around 5-6 percent. Are we preparing for a 12-13 percent increase over the next year???

The 50% law is for the district as a whole.

@Richard, wouldn't that be wonderful. It's possible that the online component is currently making people hesitant. Hopefully, we can come up with creative synchronous workshops or other ways to help students feel more comfortable with online learning.

Rich, historically, there has always been a growth during rough economic times. Our current enrollment numbers are indicative of a temporary disruption in what students are used to at BC. Once we help them through the shifting classroom environment, we should be fine. The KEY as a guided pathways college is to HELP students and GUIDE them through the change process.

@Aricia - that reminds me of one of my favorite movie lines from Bambi- can you guess it?

ALL of us should reach out to our students and support them — guiding and encouraging them to continue on their academic journey

Thank you for that clarification, Zav. That's exactly what I've been hearing from students: The shift to online was jarring and they're not hesitant to add classes with the uncertainty. I know I have been spending a lot of time reassuring students and helping them find their resources so they feel comfortable with these recent adjustments.

@Gayle, be sure to flag any students who need technology or other materials at home as a student of concern with Student Life. @Nicky and his team are working with financial aid to get each student what they need.

@Krista, we have more chromebooks/laptops on the way (they're in high demand everywhere so they're coming in waves). Jennifer Achan and her financial aid team have also made some meaningful changes to account for laptops as a supply for qualifying students.
