Yes! In Guerneville, the mutual aid flowed in from the CA/US, and the community rode in with dozers and chainsaws. They all helped save my mom's community.

I didn't see any comments regarding the negative impact of the lockdown on the mental health of our underserved students. if it's there, please let me know. This is a significant challenge. Also many of our students are working full time to contribute to family income.

informal feedback from some of our recent graduates who are now enrolled in community college and doing distance learning is that they don't feel like they are doing well. they don't feel like they are learning up to their capacity with CC distance learning. They are discouraged.
Pat Hudak

The unemployment numbers are not accurate; I realize that they never were; however, does anyone have a link to another more accurate metric for unemployment and underemployment?
Christine Boynton
01:05:12
I agree Teresa! Here's a pivot point!
Ray Kaupp
01:05:14
Yes, to Teresa! Catalyst for systemic change!
Lori Riehl, FUHSD
01:05:34
Agree with Teresa… I believe Churchill said, “Never fail to leverage a good crisis” (or something like that)
Ray Kaupp
01:06:17
Foothill turning students away, while Cabrillo is begging for students. Regional supply/demand balance issues.
Xavier Nazario
01:07:04
Excellent point, Teresa. Time = money for everyone
Gayle Larson
01:07:06
Agreed….economy based on ever increasing GDP isn’t sustainable and continues to contribute to economic inequity…

CCCCO funding formula discourages innovation and experimentation due to enrollment requirements.
Ilse Pollet
01:09:36
Thank you Rock and Elena. Yes to stronger connection between adult ed and community colleges.
kristenarps
01:10:24
Thank for highlighting needs and opportunities related to adult ed!

Love the idea of focusing on structural changes.. we have been in COVID world since March.. and most recently affected by fires.. this will be the new normal.. and then add on earthquakes.. we need to be able to continue to serve students in this “new” normal awful situation that we will be in for awhile and have infrastructures in place that anticipates these challenges and is able to shift as needed
kathleenwhite
01:12:02
Agree with focus on ESL and non-credit instruction. Key to employment.
Lori Riehl, FUHSD
01:12:32
Elena is right on re: Beginning Literary / Beg’g Low students… it’s very much a challenge to support them. We will have “team teachers”—one focusing on content & one on tech for each class.
kristenarps
01:12:38
Digital literacy instruction and English language instruction plus support services are key to adult learners being able to advance along college and career pathways
Pat Hudak
01:12:38
so true, Elena…I lost 90% of my non-credit students when we transitioned to online in March this year.
Christine Boynton
01:12:45
How can we integrate Adult school into K12 SWP?
Xavier Nazario
01:13:09
Yes to Micro lessons on cell phones. Everyone has a smart phone. It’s a great way to learn.
Lori Riehl, FUHSD
01:21:43
Chris—thank you for the question. I think (for us @ FUHSD) figuring out ways to increase the short-term, non-credit CTE would be great. Right now I think people are more interested in jobs than earning CC credit. Adult Schools can play a role in this area.
Christine Boynton
01:22:01

01:23:38
Agree With Hyla
Hyla Lacefield
01:25:41
Please tell the legislature to look at internet as a public utility. It’s one of the top limitations to education and one of the top equity issues. It will also require legislation.
