So glad to have OTC in person again!!

15:18
I’m very excited to meet many of you IN-PERSON! We are real people 🤪

15:22
https://onlineteachingconference.org

16:00
They were sold out

16:40
Will any sessions be in HyFlex modality for those that can’t travel or have limited budgets?

16:42
We are experiencing budget issues. Will DECO portion be recorded and shared?

16:43
Some of us are not able to attend BECAUSE it's in person 😥

17:00
Dawn, it will be available online! And recorded, yes

17:08
Thank you Jim!

17:32
How do the DE Coordinators get the free registration?

17:48
Fantastic Jim! Thank you!

17:50
Thank you DECO for the hybrid option ❤️

17:50
So it will be available online? Is that the same price, about $300?

18:20
The DECO retreat is the only portion available online.

18:40
Conference registration is not required to attend the DECO retreat

19:02
Thank you Gregory! Yes! The online version of OTC made it so much more accessible to so many more faculty who cannot travel or have very limited budgets

19:13
I signed up for the conference, but how do I sign up for the retreat?

19:47
Can we get both links to the conference and DECO retreat ?

19:48
It would be great to have an Online Teaching Conference in a hybrid model. After all it is on online teaching...

20:13
OTC: http://onlineteachingconference.org

20:22
DECO retreat information still to come …

20:39
I agree, @Joanna! This is the “Online Teaching” conference and in many ways should have online opportunities!!

22:52
I’m looking at the OTC schedule now, but I don’t see any designation regarding whether a particular session will be available for live streaming. Is there a plan to flag them in that way? Or is that mode not an option?

22:57
STAC order form

23:21
Good afternoon everyone

23:31
Welcome, Dr. Lowe !

23:37
@Brett, it’s not an option. Presenters were required to allow for live streaming, but only if the pandemic prohibits in-person attendance.

23:38
Yay to getting Studio funding for another year!

23:47
Can we just have a cheer for the fact that Studio is now being provided and no longer needed on STAC. Woo Hoo!

24:00
Yes! Our faculty are so happy! :)

24:12
Studio! Yay!

24:15
Thanks for the clarification, Gregory.

24:17
Yahoo for Studio!

24:17
Woohoo!

24:20
Woo Hoo!

24:23

24:25
Fantastic News about Studio!!!

24:31
Great news about Studio!

24:34
🍾

24:35
Thank you, Marina, for your tireless support for that!

24:37

24:40
Sure hope that Studio can become a long-term part of our infrastructure :-)

Equitable Grading Strategies: https://onlinenetworkofeducators.org/course-cards/equitable-grading-strategies/

26:19
Congratulations to Mike!

26:20
Have new sections of the new equity in grading course been added? It was full last time I checked. Thanks.

26:31
@brett @gregory - thank you for clarifying Gregory!

27:02
Thanks for the link, Helen.

27:04
@Jim - yesssssss

27:11
@bridget The May section is our inaugural session of the course. We’ll be offering more in summer and fall, for sure.

27:48
Super excited to be registered for May!

28:29
@ONE courses are $85 for four weeks.

28:52
Janeth, if you teach for us at Sacramento City College, we will pick up that cost for you ;-)

30:00
@ErinLarson Is there a “final” version of Title 5 updates available anywhere? We can only seem to find ones that still show the edits/strikethrough text.

30:22
FYI, our @ONE facilitated courses are priced to break even, so we can provide facilitators who are expert online teachers in our CCC system.

31:32
@Helen, no, the T5 regs are not final until they are codified by the Secretary of State. They have not approved them yet.

31:49
@Erin Thanks for the clarification.

31:53
Equitable Online Teaching webinars are free. Go to https://onlinenetworkofeducators.org/sp22-equity-series/

32:13
Would you post a link to the last draft version of Title 5 changes that are to be approved, @Helen?

32:39
@Piper I don’t have a link handy. Sorry. Maybe we can crowdsource that. ;-)

33:11
Thanks, Katie!

33:22
Thanks to Joanna Miller!

33:24
Katie's faster than me!

33:46
@Katie's link still has strikethrough

33:47
Can you share the link to the “GE Guiding Notes”

34:03
@Erin -- just have them handy for meetings and accreditation... LOL...

34:43
Will these slides be available for us?

35:05
@Michelle - The strikethrough version is the only version available until the Secretary of State codifies them.

35:27
Brett, yes, our intention is to share them once Dr. Lowe sends them to DECO

35:37
@Erin -- thanks...I was hoping to have a clean version with a notation of the SoS need to codify them.

35:41
Thanks, Jim!

35:49
@Erin: Is there any possibility the language will be changed before it gets codified?

37:01
Thank you, Katie - and Helen!

37:15
@Scott - The SoS or Department of Finance COULD ask for changes but I believe it is rare.

40:10
@Audrey - all sessions will be in-person unless pandemic circumstances don't allow for it. Although we'd like to offer HyFlex, it is not possible at this time to do both due to budget constraints. We will work on providing presentations and material via the website post-event for those that are unable to attend/travel.

40:28
How many of our colleges have decided to create duplicate lab courses that are explicitly not DE so that their students aren’t disadvantaged by taking an in-person class that happens to have a COR that allows for DE delivery?

40:33
Thank you, Dr. Lowe, for helping us understand this complex process!

41:46
What is the CCCCO messaging to students about this?

41:55
So if there are no specific articulation agreements in place, the general guidelines apply, yes?

42:34
A majority of our labs are back on campus and no longer being offered online because of this 🙁

42:56
Transfer impediments are the main reason that Glendale’s STEM divisions are reluctant to offer Online labs.

43:09
Most colleges do not indicate on their transcripts whether labs/classes are online or on-site.

43:44
The problem, though, is when colleges are not just looking at the transcript, but at the COR, which may indicate DE approval.

44:02
One issue that I have seen is that particular departments are reluctant to offer certain classes online simply because they are concerned about what may happen.

44:05
Major Prep at Glendale is the fear, but as Gregory said, students don’t necessarily know when they start whether they’ll become STEM majors

44:30
The uncertainty is having an impact on offerings.

45:32
Santa Ana College is also not offering the majority of lab courses online. No one wants to be responsible for a student not being able to transfer or retake.

45:45
I think that students are going to default to the “safest”option.

45:56
Is there a list somewhere of CSU and UC that are rejecting online labs?

46:11
I have heard it is specific to Berkeley

47:11
Adding to Julie's question. Is there a list of places rejecting solely on COR (rather than actual offerings)

48:28
Maybe in the Vision Resource Center?

50:09
Or can you talk about the new proposed faculty competencies that are to be introduced in the next BoG meeting?

52:57
Competencies and criteria in that link ^^

53:39
I wonder how those new competencies will align with the min quals for faculty that already include the ability to work with the diverse students served by the CCC system.

54:59
When would these be anticipated to be passed?

55:14
Of special relevance is accessibility and those competencies

55:22
Thank you. We’ve had trouble how to assess whether candidates meet that min qual. I like the use of “competencies,” which implies something that can be measured.

55:57
If passed, I'd be interested in having the CVC support PD for these competencies.

56:42
Agreed!

58:29
I see a lot of language in that document about "evaluation and tenure review" and PD, much about min quals or hiring.

58:46
*not* much

59:28
Great point, Jim

01:00:12
Is there PD or funding for PD or support from CVC around regular substantive interaction?

01:01:32
@ONE is fantastic for that.

01:01:35

01:02:42
Thanks, Aisha!

01:02:48
Thank you for sharing the slides, Dr. Lowe!

01:03:11
@Darnell, that's awesome. Wish I could get our campus on board for that!

01:03:30
The approach of how campuses define RSI is an interesting for DECO to cover - maybe??

01:03:36
Absolutely. It has lots of hyperlinks.

01:03:47
Dr. Norman refers to the new RSI definition in the federal DE regulation, which is now part of the ACCJC DE policy and is being integrated into Title 5.

01:04:01
Recording of the ACCJC webinar is now available on their website: https://accjc.org/webinar/#webinar_recordings

01:04:35
We are having these exact discussions at our campus now

01:04:41
@Suzanne, yes we should revisit this with regard to how our policies and practices may need updating.

01:04:45
I think some colleges are waiting for the T5 changes to be codified (?)

01:06:02
Thank you so much, Dr. Lowe!

01:06:05
Thanks, Jim. Hyflex is really important. And confusing.

01:06:17
And how to deal with the shades of difference of HyFlex practice

01:06:38
Defining what constitutes RSI is an academic and professional matter and subject to the purview of the Academic Senate, but the college is responsible for documenting that it takes place for purposes of accreditation. The webinar included representatives from colleges whose senates defined it college-wide and representatives from colleges whose senates defined it department by department. The key takeaway for me was that how RSI will be conducted is easily visible for accreditation site team members *and* students.

01:06:39
Greg, thanks for the link to the webinar recording

01:07:44
Thanks, Dr. Lowe for the very helpful information.

01:07:54
Thanks, Dr. Lowe, and thanks for a great meeting, DECO team!

01:07:56
Thank you!

01:07:58
Thank you all!

01:07:59
Thanks all!

Thank you!

01:08:06
Thank you Dr. Lowe!
