Mai, absolutely! Please share.

22:13
Great! Will do.

These slides will be included in the information posted later, correct?

26:32
Davena, yes

26:38
Great!

26:53
I thought so, but wanted to confirm. I cannot take notes quite so quickly. Thanks Jim.

27:58
(I do so many screenshots in these meetings for my own notes :-)

29:00
Aren't the recordings and transcripts made available?

Anything about defining HyFlex?

30:28
I notice it doesn’t say “required” meetings. If a course has weekly optional review sessions or office hours… do these need to be published before the course?

30:31
Is the BOG-approved language posted somewhere?

30:41
Approximately when will the guidance come out?

30:45
Question about publication in course schedule: would this new requirement apply to in-person classes that use Canvas or LMS to submit assignment?

31:50
@Jennifer, we will ask Erin to address this.

31:52
Great question, Joanna S.

32:14
This is an academic and professional matter because it’s regarding curriculum

32:14
That seems like faculty purview. Teaching French might reasonably require it, teaching physics may not.

32:42
Curriculum is 10+1

32:44
@Jennifer, those new 55005 requirements are specific to “distance education format” courses

34:23
We put it in the schedule of classes that the use of technology will be required if a class is web enhancing

34:31
If you’re using canvas … doesn’t that make it hybrid?

34:37
As long as instruction isn't happening on the platform.

34:43
Not if all the instructional meetings are in person, Nick

34:49
@Nick, only if you are replacing F2F time with online, not if web enhancing

34:53
We know many instructors going back to in-person classes still want to use Canvas even though all lecture time is in person.

35:02
k

35:12
what about assessment, since someone mentioned quizzes

35:15
We call it "enhancing" a class if someone just posts grades and announcements through Canvas.

35:43
https://go.boarddocs.com/ca/cccchan/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=C6MS2J70696B

36:03
@Maria, if instructors use online quizzes, that is considered like a take home exam since not replacing class time

36:16
@Wendy, thanks!!

36:23
ASCCC Resolution on HyFlex asks for some clarity from CCCCO

36:34
Is there some limit to how much we can use online (LMS) like Canvas in a FtF course without defining it as "online" or "DE"?

37:17
"optional" is problematic because many instructors call them optional when they are really more closely to required.

37:35
and optional opportunities may change success rates, so maybe not so optional

37:43
If required then it should be on the schedule

38:00
@Steve, a course becomes DE when FTF instructional time is replaced with non-FTF (when faculty are separated from students)

38:20
a previous Hyflex guidance memo was mentioned, does anyone have a link to that?

38:22
This is a federal definition 600.2 CFR

38:38
So, is homework (discussion boards, etc) considered a "replacement" to FtF?

38:47
Do the guidance memos get circulate on the DECO Listserv?

39:28
If a synchronous meeting is required but not with a set day/time--the instructor is willing be flexible to accommodate students--should they still specify that?

39:49
Where do we find the guidance memos?

40:00
@Steve, homework is defined differently—not as instructional time.

40:01
@ Homework is not a replacement for class time unless you are actually not having students come to in-personclass.

40:04
Federal definitions of academic engagement and distance education can be found in Chapter 34 600.2: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-34/subtitle-B/chapter-VI/part-600

40:06
@Steve - Is the face to face class being scheduled for less time? Then it would be hybrid. If the face to face time is not being scheduled for less, than the use of the LMS does not make it online.

40:30
I will put link to CCCCO page for memos (unless someone beats me to it) :-)

41:05
Thanks Kathy! That is very helpful!

41:23

Thanks for the references, Russ!

01:03:17
Question: Does this apply to faculty who have moved out of state but still retain employment?

01:03:51
Regarding faculty different states have different rules regarding those faculty.

01:05:05
A few states require that the institution to be approved to offer courses in that state if you have faculty there.State with income taxes will likely require that you pay taxes for faculty resident in other states.

01:05:18
Just so everyone knows since we didn’t introduce him, Russ Poulin is the Executive Director for WCET. Thanks for monitoring chat, Russ.

01:05:30
Happy to help!

01:06:43
City College of San Francisco encountered this with faculty location and I am happy to share our experience. My email is cdewar@ccsf.edu.

01:06:44
@WCET/SAN Team - Thank you. This is very helpful.

01:06:51
does this apply to study abroad? any modality?

01:07:01
to Jennifer's question...if you have faculty in other states, you need to learn about the rules regarding those faculty.

01:07:08
Thanks to CVC we are all members of the State Authorization Network.

01:07:09
link for professional licensing?

01:07:17
(webinar)

01:07:35
For study abroad, you need to assure that you are following the rules of that country.

01:08:08
thanks

01:08:10
Is it okay for schools to say they will not accept enrollments from certain states (because if the fees required for instance)?

01:08:23
@Russ, if Cheryl does not have time to address this, can you say how these rules are enforced? Monitored, or only by complaint?

01:10:38
Rules are monitored by the states themselves. Often thru complaints. Also, you will need to demonstrate that you are in compliance as part of federal financial aid audits. If you are teaching students in other states, they will expect to show that you have the approval of the state where the student is locate.

01:11:05
Russ, where can I find the link for the 12/1 event re: RSI?
