Thank you Kandace for all of your inspiration 🙂

17:05
Thank you, Kandace!

17:22
❤️

17:24
If we registered previously, are we automatically registered as in-person? If so, can we elect to change that?

18:32
Yes, if you have registered previously, that would be for the in-person retreat. Please connect with the OTC conference organizers directly if you have questions about registration and/or would like to cancel your in-person registration. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2022-online-teaching-conference-tickets-168145426497

20:01
Thanks. I see Leslie is on, I will pass that to Alice as well--I know she's planning to attend but aiming to minimize how much she needs to be mobile (somehow)

21:26
If you plan on going 'virtual' for the retreat, please keep your eye out for more information on the DE-ALL Listserv as we get closer to the conference. :) Thanks for your patience and understanding in advance for our trying out a new format!

22:31
Good time to remind all of our CVC/@ONE training courses.

Correct, @Suzanne.

Food for thought: “Accelerate” is about time--how does a student "get through" as fast as possible. But are there more important values than speed? That makes CVC merely instrumental. Perhaps we can somehow reclaim “education for citizenship” (or a similar word since "citizen” has become problematic).

41:30
That's a great analysis of the "verbs" we use, Dan. I believe acceleration was a previous principle for the creation of the CVC because it sought to correct the problem of students withering in the system without transferring or completing their ed goals.

46:40
@Marino - Makes sense, since

48:22
How are courses chosen? Who makes that choice?

48:33
When they ask for ‘feedback on work’ are they looking at assignment feedback in the Grades?

48:44
What role does the review team need to do their work in Canvas during a review?

48:51
@Matthew we had our research office come up with 50 randomized courses

48:54
… "accelerate” may sound good to students. But if only we had a better metaphor or image. “Seamless” is not student-speak; "finish with no gaps” doesn't make much sense; oh, for a good metaphor!

49:36
and I then went through them to be sure they had students in them (weren't part of a lab/lecture combo where the students were in another section, etc)

53:11
Allow me to share this quality-related article that Michelle Pacansky-Brock wrote for the April 2022 Rostrum: "Leveraging System-level ProfessionalDevelopment to Promote High-quality,Inclusive Online Teaching and Learning" at https://www.asccc.org/content/leveraging-system-level-professional-development-promote-high-quality-inclusive-online. There are many ways our CVC/@ONE team can help your college improve online quality (with more to come).

53:35
Thank you, Bob.

54:03
Thanks, Bob. Will be excellent, we know!

54:23
Annual DE reports to Board of Trustees might also be another good concise spot for much of this evidence.

55:30
Thanks, Anne - great insight and info!

55:32
thank you

55:33
Thank you, Anne!

55:37
Very helpful!

55:45
Thank you, Anne!

58:29
@Matthew...courses are "random"...but I have never asked how courses were chosen as a team member. I just got the courses and reviewed.

58:54
thanks

59:03
If we felt like we needed to see different kinds of classes, we asked...But, really, the colleges were good at selecting a wide range.

59:19
From the Peer Review Guide: "The college should work with the team chair to provide a random sampleof fully online distance education courses to observe." The team chair works with the Institutional ALO.

01:00:13
For our recent ACCJC virtual visit, I added all of the reviewers (3) to all of the 50 sections and they determined who looked at what course

01:01:09
Hopefully under the new formative/summative process, the course review process will be less abrupt/rushed, since it's not tied to the time of the visit.

01:01:41
Our last visit, we did a true random sample using number generator based and it was double-blind

01:01:41
agree, @Jim. We were expecting an October visit and it was early Spring.

01:02:50
@Dr. Aizon, we did the same. That list, however, pulled some sections that had zero students, so I had a backup list of "extra" randomized courses to supplement.

01:03:08
How about 25 random and 25 chosen by the college?

01:04:23
@Kandace, my partner clean up the list of only sections that were active, then I was responsible for the random number generator.

01:05:48
@Dr. Aizon, good plan!

01:05:51
Has any college “gotten away with" giving less than teacher access?

01:06:13
@Jessica we put them in .test and gave them teacher access

01:06:15
We have given reviewers an Observer role that is limited

01:06:36
Wow, Observer is quite limited

01:06:40
(we tried Observer and we were asked to switch to teacher)

01:07:16
Thank you very helpful

01:07:17
We have also asked faculty whose courses were randomly selected to provide additional documents if the faculty to student and student to student interaction is not readily seen as an Observer

01:07:49
Yes, thanks for the feedback.

01:07:53
Dr. Aizon, why student to student interaction? That is not an accreditation standard

01:08:14
It was a just in case if asked

01:08:22
Our college accreditation coordinator has already shared that they will be given the “teacher"role in Canvas.

01:08:32
We provide a supplemental checklist to faculty when they're being evaluated so that they can demonstrate R+E in their courses (if they wish) that may not be readily available.
