I think we stepped up our game when it came to the transition to online
Tara Myers
20:22
Agree Rebecca. We did well with the shift of duties from in person to online.
Ryan Shook
20:45
I wish I could afford to go to there for an EdD!!
Tara Myers
20:54
Student outreach was awesome I really enjoyed reaching out and helping the needs of our students and I feel like they appreciated it as well.
Linda Diaz
21:08
I think students are still having a hard time reaching staff here at Gavilan. One idea I've had is by replacing or adding an optional number to the directory or even each individual webpage so that students have the google numbers or cranium café link and be able to speak to a live person.
Kristina Tedesco
22:33
That's a great idea Linda. We in the EOPS office all have google numbers and can reach us by phone. I can be reached my phone and text with the google number. Seems to be working out great.
Jeanne
23:26
So people can feel heard.

Tara Myers
23:58
I have given my google number out when reaching out and have had several students call me back with questions and I have been able to redirect them to specific depts. I

Ally defined as "a person or organization that cooperates with or helps another in a particular activity."
Rebecca Northon
26:06
My personal experience with the minority population, which is a large percentage of our athletes, is that they really just want someone to listen to their story. A lot of what we do as Athletic trainers, is listen, not only about an injury, but the mental health of that individual (which is tied to the physiology of healing).
Lucy Alvarez
28:42
Thank you for sharing Rebecca.

You have to be aware of your implicit biases, or be aware that they may exist in order to confront them.
Grace Cardinalli
30:10
Same with microaggressions
Rebecca Northon
30:17
Quiet your ‘gut reaction’ and listen better
jessica
31:12
I think it can also come from trauma as well.

“One of the most fascinating lessons I’ve absorbed about life is that the struggle is good.” – Joe Rogan
Jan Bernstein Chargin
32:06
For example, the word "we". Close your eyes, What does "we" look like? If you are white, Is "we" white?
Kristina Tedesco
32:18
sterotyping
Grace Cardinalli
33:26
EXACTLY!
Grace Cardinalli
33:37
Oh...that's just wrong
Grace Cardinalli
37:36
Most people want to see some of ourselves in others. Unfortunately, some people experience difficulty when they can't see themselves in others. That difficulty ranges from fear, microaggressions/implicit biases, to full on hatred :-(
Tara Myers
37:47
I think it is learning to break out of the comfort zone in order to grow. Learn something uncomfortable to you/your culture, that is where growth is born. Learn people's stories help be the change.
Grace Cardinalli
38:25
@ Tara: YEP!!
Kristina Tedesco
40:13
Yes Tara, I've really had to look inside me, not be influence by family members, I have broken out. I feel so free in doing so. And now being part of the Gavilan "family", it's been such a beautiful experience working here
Jan Bernstein Chargin
41:53
I live in a very diverse neighborhood, and some of my children's friends have not been allowed to visit because their parents think my neighborhood is "dangerous."
Ryan Shook
42:15

Peter Howell
42:21
hey that's my neighborhood!
Tara Myers
42:40

Kristina Tedesco

Kristina Tedesco

feel like i'm learning more from my college aged daughter. she has become so wise
Jeanne
50:02
Racial 'jokes' can make things confusing. Somehow it's accepted for the races to make racial jokes about themselves.
