Edina, I completely agree. Colleges are litigiously averse and work to the minimum standards precisely because of the financial costs. I find this to be the general approach of CCCs in all areas, including in hiring to the bare MQs. More attention and RESOURCES need to be directed to serve DSPS across the state.

I am fighting for an Accessibility Coordinator

A VPAT or ACR provides very limited information. If a vendor reports a product Supports all or most of the criteria, but does not provide meaningful information as Remarks and Explanations, it is very difficult to use the VPAT or ACR to determine how accessible a product is or is not. If a procurement process is at the stage where it takes the VPAT or ACR information at face value, what a vendor reports in the Remarks and Explanations is crucial. It is also important that the vendor clearly explain the process used to evaluate the product. If the accessibility of the product only applies to an iPad, for example, and the product is going to be used on college lab desktop computers, is the VPAT or ACR useful?

Wording in policy and procedures in our institutions … it has be urged to remember to mindful participate and utilize to keep them active as needed...local academic senates as well as statewide are entities that allow for inclusive language and benchmark wording that is clear and modern as things change.

Southwestern College was able to hire an classified position in response to a 508 complaint. It is housed in Institutional Technology department and the focus in on Accessibility of Information Technology. All new tech purchases are evaluated for accessibility. Hello Amar, the guidance for classes that are synchronous instruction are that they do not have to be live captioned unless there is a request from a student. The live captions apply to one-way webcast type content.

I had a question about that court order for LACC to make PeopleSoft accessible. It sounds like a great idea, but a lot of these publisher portals are closed, proprietary systems, and it isn't even possible for us to reprogram them. I guess I'm wondering why we can't have more accountability for the publishers who actually created the inaccessible content rather than only the college.

Otter.ai is currently offering a free license for campuses, they offer auto generating captions and they tend to be more accurate as the faculty trains the auto-generation. It doesn't eliminate the need to go back in and edit the errors, but it is one of the better ones out there and it can be integrated into Zoom.
