One of the challenges we’re facing in talking about Hyflex is faculty who see it as an opportunity to teach from home when they want to (not a student centric perspective)

It would be really cool to have one of these sessions be delivered from a classroom using an Owl so we could experience Hyflex as a student.

Can you elaborate on FERPA a bit more? At SDCCE, we avoid broadcasting on campus HyFlex students to support student privacy.

@Moses, we have not come up against that since the expectation the faculty are in the class with their student.

We have hired student workers and trained them to use the owls rather than having students in the class do this extra work. We wanted them to focus on the course work.

@Jena - to be DE Certified in our district faculty take two four week trainings that are similar to ITC and IOTL, we personalized the content to our district and added some ADA and design assignments

Are the student leaders in the course as TAs?

Did your district consider other types of devices, or was the Owly the only device considered for adoption?

How many faculty in total were trained in January?

My question is focused on attendance and what seems like some squishiness with the asynchronous option both for attendance accounting and student expectations

Does the Owly require a LAN connection, can it operate via WiFi?

I realize it's early. But, what sort of data have you been able to gather regarding the efficacy of your HyFlex courses? Enrollment, student success rates, student equity, persistence (beyond the HyFlex course), student satisfaction, faculty satisfaction, etc?

We are running a small pilot at College of the Desert with the OWLs and they are not really liking them. With masking the audio is muffled. How are they working for you?

Can the Owly deliver high resolution images to Zoomies so that whiteboard material or projected material (particularly text) be read remotely?

@Robert, that has not been our experience.

@Robert - the iPad works great for that

Here is the comment in our schedule of classes. HyFlex (Inperson and Zoom)ýStudents can participate in the scheduled lecture face to face inýthe classroom or online via ZOOM at the days/times/locationýspecified in the schedule of classes.

@Raquel - In my department, I didn't have enough enrollment (we're a really small department) to offer more than one section of a course in a term. Therefore, I couldn't offer a f2f section and an online/zoom session of the course. The only way I could do it was to offer it as HyFlex.

Are “Roomies” informed about the video recording prior to registration or are they first informed in the syllabus?

@Michelle it is in the notes when they register. Not ideal in that so many students don’t look at the notes

@Michelle - We put some of that information in the orientation letter that is posted on the campus website and some faculty put it in the syllabus.

HyFlex would be dual-delivery plus asynchronous though, correct?

@Robert - the in person white board did not work that well for our specific classroom; thus, I opted to use the Wacom tablet (as my digital whiteboard), and this worked beautifully with the Owl-- I use "Wacom One"

DE coordinator-type folks: :-) … if we were to gather info about HyFlex (e.g. these slides), where would you find this info helpful over the long-term: ASCCC website or CCC DECO website?

DECO for me, but I can't speak to others' preferences.

Robert, I think the answer to that first question about student experiences would be different for every student (just like classroom experiences are different for every student).

at Barstow college they made a classroom with built in cameras and mics. Not using OWL but I am interested in learning more

I would be interested in attending additional workshops/meetings. I am concerned that many of the courses we teach would not be good candidates for Hyflex in that students must use lab-based equipment.
