We who are about to learn Zoom, salute you!
Sorry, double click where?
Double click anywhere on the Zoom screen
I got mine in 5 minutes today
it was almost immediate for me.
I’ve been using zoom.us, what’s the difference?
My original request never went through from a few days ago, but I placed it again today and got it immediately.
Okay, they got it together.
Good to hear, Chris.
It is encouraging to know they have adapted to the situation
I have two zooms because I am planning to use them through Canvas.
at my two colleges:).
I’ve also been using zoom.us. Should I switch?
Carina, ConferZoom gives you more features including how long the meetings can last and the option to record to the cloud rather than getting giant files on your computer
As I understood it, students don’t need to join. I just send out the invitation from my end, or?
Yes, if your current Zoom account is through zoom.us, go ahead and sign up for an account using your MiraCosta email at http://conferzoom.org
Do I have to send out an invitation to each student or can they just click on the link in Canvas to get connected?
Just sharing the link to a Zoom meeting in Canvas is sufficient. No individual invitations
H390’s on amazon was $55, but $25 on BestBuy.com
Is that the best practice?
Is the PMI the same number always? Will students forever be able to access your Zoom room after they are no longer students?
What does the PMI do again?
Same place meaning same log in link?
I’m not sure if I’m on the right one, but I go to confer zoom and it redirects me to zoom.us
Sorry, what’s the issue if we don’t use the PMI?
@Carina you’re ok, that’s what it does
@Jim thank you
Starting by logging in through ConferZoom ensures you have access to more features, but you’re still actually working with zoom.us
Thank You. I just sent a request on confer zoom, i had no idea there was a difference.
On a Mac, the equivalent is right-clicking on the Zoom icon in your task bar, click Options, then click Keep in Dock
In the Closed Caption option, does MCC have a service or do we need to type?
Do meetings record automatically (possible set up in settings) or do we have to hit record on the screen choosing from “more” menu… also, for accesability, how does closed captioning work, do we have to set it up ??
Are the secret images accessible?
can you share that link in the chat box?
Why can't we see Rick? Can we see participants and host at the same time?
Teresa you can, it just depends on how you’ve configured Zoom as a participant
Teresa - scroll over the box of participants and you should be able to change the options so you can see the speaker (Rick)
Carina, yeah, recording can be set up to be automatic or not in your meeting settings
Carina, there’s information here about requesting live captioning for Zoom meetings https://tic.miracosta.edu/campus-teaching-technologies/conferzoom/
It’s not an absolute requirement (and probably better NOT to request) unless you have a student that requires that accommodation
Zoom will auto-transcribe/caption recordings regardless of whether you had a live captioner in the session
i keep trying to open up Rick’s messages….
So, if I am teaching at two schools, same class, I can't use the same recording for both schools?
Once I’ve scheduled a confer zoom meeting with my students through Canvas, how do the students sign in to the video meeting on the day/time that it is set?
Candice, you can if you don’t use the ConferZoom LTI to provide access to the recording. You can just go to ConferZoom to grab the recording link and share it with either school in Canvas
(Candice, I assume you are talking about a recording of you by yourself with no students. Definitely don’t share a recording with students in one school with students at the other school)
are most people using ConferZoom through Canvas or externally?
I'm going to go asynchronous. Is sharing videos just as simple as loading the link of the recording on Canvas?
@Lauren, I believe if students go to canvas and confer zoom and you’ve scheduled the meeting, students will be able to hit a Join button
Lesley, yes exactly!
Yes, I am talking about a recording of just myself. So, don't use the LTI. What is LTI? Is it in the settings?
Thank you. I need to run, but this was helpful
Candice, sorry, yes, the ConferZoom LTI is in the navigation settings of your Canvas class.
My question is - how do you post a link to a past recorded session so students can watch it later. I know how to put a link on Canvas just don't know where you do that in Zoom.
Thank you Jim!
Could you just create a separate breakout room for the student who needs to meet privately?
There’s a waiting room feature too
Jonathan - that seems like a great idea to me!
Megan, if you log in at http://conferzoom.org, there will be a tab on the left that says Recordings. You can grab the link from there
Thank you very much!
Actually, I was just looking at the waiting room function that Annie mentioned—that might be easier, but it looks like you have to set it up in advance. You could also create breakout rooms on the fly and just put one student in the “private” room.
jonathan where is the waiting room feature
