01:13:03
why is the period of time the virus remains extended with preventive measures compared to no preventive measures?
Christopher Glaser
01:13:13
For Q&A: Do we have any preliminary plans for alternative environments for programs that rely heavily on in-person instruction? (Like music classes, athletics classes, etc.)
Lesley Bonds
01:14:48
To Chris Glaser: At this time, we do not plan to move classes that rely heavily on in-person instruction like music, welding, public safety. By transitioning many other classes online we will still mitigate the numbers of people on campus and reduce crowds in line with social distancing protocol.
Alissa
01:15:19
Q&A: If we go to a online instruction will the same resources be available such as the library or counselors ?
Lesley Bonds
01:15:32
@Chris Glaser, President is speaking to this now.
Lesley Bonds
01:16:12
@Alissa: Yes, VP Dadabhoy and Rice will speak to this. The library has a full plan and the counseling department among other student services areas, including financial aid, EOPS, etc. are preparing to provide full support to students leveraging technology
Kim Arbolante
01:16:22
@alissa, Writing Center will see students via Zoom conferencing online
Eileen Pierce
01:16:51
SI Leaders will also work with students via Zoom.
LG L322DL

Christopher Glaser
01:17:27
Thank you, @Lesley Bonds!
Alissa
01:17:42
yes Thank you Lesley !
Christopher Glaser
01:18:57
For Q&A: Many staff members have been concerned about alternative work locations. Many student employees have also been concerned about not being able to work as we transition into these uncharted territories. Do we have updates on how pay might be affected (for staff and student employees) and how alternative work locations might work for staff and student employees?
Beth & Ed
01:19:23
BUt if we are comfortable going on line, can we do that?
Carlos Medina
01:20:20
https://www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/covid19
nickstrobel
01:20:24
Yes, I think we can go online if we want. Wave 1 is “volunteers”
Lesley Bonds
01:20:37
@Chris, Student employees should work with their supervisors. For example, Isabel and I have developed a list of projects for our students to work on from home if that becomes necessary. At this point, students will continue to report to campus. Students can also work with their supervisors to make up hours after a closure if needed
Beth & Ed
01:20:44
We have heard that BC is going on line for 2 weeks. Is that correct?
Christopher Glaser
01:21:11
Awesome. Thank you, @Lesley Bonds.
Kayla
01:21:16
Q&A: how are labs gonna work with social distancing protocol? And what if we have to do our online course on campus because of our labs and such, will you guys provide us a space to listen and work during our lecture?
Lesley Bonds
01:22:12
@kayla, labs that cannot be moved will continue to meet in person for now. This is in line with Gov Newsom's recommendation to reduce crowds over 250 people - so we will only be holding small, appx 25-30 person gatherings for now unless the situation develops
phebe
01:22:42
Q&A: Who is a part of the second wave?
Lesley Bonds
01:23:02
@Beth & Ed and @nickstrobel, if you're ready it is a smart move to make the transition now. We have no plans to go fully online for 100% of classes at this point unless the situation develops to a point we cannot control it. In that case, the more prep you have done to move online, the better
Lesley Bonds
01:23:43
@phebe, the 2nd wave will be those faculty who are ready after having participating in additional training and feel confident in using the online resources (Canvas, zoom, etc). Academic Technology is holding many trainings for faculty to prepare to make the transition
Kim Arbolante
01:23:43
Is the plan to keep these shifts in place for the remainder of the semester? Is this adjustment just until spring break? Please advise.

Lesley Bonds
01:25:40
@kim, can you clarify: which shifts? Online? The situation is developing every moment. We have not set a hard stop for the transition - if for some reason the threat of COVID-19 disappeared, we would assess and communicate those changes to the community. For now, we will practice caution, hunker down, and plan for both the short and long term as we watch the context every day (or hour... or minute, really!)
Beth & Ed
01:26:04
Are there any "unconfirmed " cases in Kern County ? Rumors are spreading like fire!
Kim Arbolante
01:26:13
Yes, I meant the shift to online/zoom instruction. Thank you for the info.
Lesley Bonds
01:26:32
@Beth & Ed, no confirmed cases in Kern County. There are 9 tests out currently with those individuals awaiting results.

@Angie Horton, you can see on our website the series of communications since February 27. Dr. Damania also just sent a Bc_all today to clarify the wave 1 instructional shift. While we have been messaging, we know that everyone needs to hear the message MANY times and in MANY ways from MANY people.

Thank you Billie Jo

Virus is here, not just from travel anymore.
Richard Roux
01:35:09
What will incoming freshmen students who have scheduled meetings with counselors next week do?
Lesley Bonds
01:35:54
@Lindsay - Yes, I understand individuals have been advised to self-incubate if they have traveled, but we have not yet made this a policy. This is a good point for us to add to our website and Q&A as a recommendation for individuals. And yes @deb, that is the concern - mitigation vs. containment
Beth & Ed
01:36:13
How far out is BC currently making adjustments? Any plans for summertime yet?

01:39:12
For those asking questions about travel, at this point we are following the CC guidelines for travel so if you are traveling to an area that has a level 3 travel advisory than you must do a self quarantine. Go to our website https://www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/covid19 and find the link to the travel restriction guidelines link
Lesley Bonds
01:39:33
@ximena: science faculty should have access to labs at this point for the foreseeable future. The only reason we could foresee that not possible is if a third party (i.e. the government) forces a physical closure. We don't have reason to believe that is imminent
Deb

One thing to consider is that some students are confused about whether or not faculty have the “option” to stay for f2f vs. doing online….thus reiterating the message that the college is moving toward online instruction is important
