Are you recording?
Jim Julius
06:07:32
Yes, this is being recorded

Great
Jim Julius
06:07:44
Himgauri, then you are probably not on the most updated version of Zoom

I missed that…do Canvas quizzes work on phones?
Jim Julius
06:14:23
Quizzes, yes … Proctorio, no

06:17:28
How do you make quiz “not for points”? will you show this?
NADIA KHAN
06:17:40
That's good to know that some quiz options can be used using canvas on cell phones.
Jim Julius
06:18:28
Mary, you can designate the quiz aa a “Practice Quiz” - see https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12949-4152724265

06:20:34
There’s also a tutorial on Canvas exam security features that we’ve created for MiraCosta, here: https://tic.miracosta.edu/academic-integrity-and-canvas-exams/

If I have one student whom missed the Quiz, and needs to take it at a later date, can I provide them an access code and will it override the due date?
Jim Julius
06:22:57
Our local support article on Proctorio has those details, here: https://tic.miracosta.edu/proctorio/

06:33:19
does anyone know if there is a whiteboard feature on the canvas quizzes? meaning can you have a question where the student draws the answer?
Jim Julius
06:35:11
Mary, no, that is not a quiz question type. But you could have students drawing on paper and uploading an image in their answer if you do an essay-type question.
Darlene
06:39:54
As I recall. Blackboard used to allow instructors to set a time limit for students to review exam results. As Canvas does not have this feature, students (especially DSPS students) have a enough time to take screenshots of test questions and answers. In fact, I have had a student show me the screenshots that she took during her review. Has this been an issue for anyone else?
Paula Toto
06:40:12
Is there a easy way to import questions from a Word document into Canvas Quiz?
Candice Klingbeil
06:40:46
Can you show us how to make a quiz and how to import a test bank and use those questions versus writing our own.
juliehaugness-white
06:40:48
Thanks!
Kent McCorkle
06:40:51
You can moderate and give +1 attempt.
juliehaugness-white
06:41:04
Ok, good to know
mary woo
06:41:04
I need to provide extra time to a student can you remind me where in the quiz set up I can make that adjustment?
Joan
06:41:09
Thank you both!
Roland Estrella
06:41:24
I have done that as well for late quizzes, but I have moved a few questions around just in case…
Brian Page
06:41:50
I had pretty much the same question as Mary. Essentially how (in Canvas) to give a student with an accommodation their +50% time without making a whole new quiz.
Darlene
06:42:27
Thanks! I have had to turn it off also
Kent McCorkle
06:43:08
I can show a live class if you want
juliehaugness-white
06:43:08
I have experience allowing students to review their answers vs. the right answers after their final attempt taking a formative assessment. My students actually get 4 attempts to get all 10 points on weekly quizzes.

When I was reading help documents on the TIC website about Proctorio, it stated that Proctorio only works with Quizzes, not new Quizzes. Does this still hold true that Proctorio can't be used with New Quizzes?

I don’t like to use test banks since many of them are available for students to find on the internet. What I have done is import a test bank and then modify the questions so that I don’t need to start from scratch and I can use some of the identifiers.
Jim Julius
06:52:17
Paula, no unfortunately respondus is PC-only
Genevieve Yan
06:52:33
Does Speedgrader work with New Quizzes?
Jim Julius
06:53:02
Genevieve, yes
Kent McCorkle
06:53:12
It does!?
Genevieve Yan
06:53:20
Thank you Jim.
Darlene
06:55:26
Jim! Will all quizzes in the Classic Quizzes format now need to be changed to New Quizzes in the Summer/Fall?
Darlene
06:56:01
Hooray!
Kent McCorkle
06:56:01
The issue I've found is that if you use question groups they break when migrating to new quizzes :P

I’m not going to use it. Going the take-home exam route.

New Quizzes offers a few new question types, Among other things. Here’s a comparison: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12115-new-quizzes-feature-comparison

06:59:26
The biggie to me is that New Quizzes allows you to shuffle questions but Classic Quizzes doesn't
Kent McCorkle
06:59:40
But classis does have a few features I wish new had :(
Genevieve Yan
06:59:42
I had never even heard of Proctorio until this lecture. I think it sounds pretty cool and may be a tool I try at a future time, but at this point in this semester and with everything else my students and I are having to learn and adjust to, I am going to stick with Canvas for now.
Gillian Patton

Can someone in power have a conversation with Canvas so screen shots and copy paste cannot be used on the open quiz? that’s the biggest problem in my mind
Jim Julius
07:02:33
It would be nice if Canvas had a built-in lockdown browser, Mary, agreed
Roland Estrella
07:03:07
Here is an example of why I don’t use test banks as written. I will change the focus or answers so I don’t have to reinvent the wheel, lol.

Exactly, many testbanks are online and if they're taking quizzes at home they can easily google to find answers :(I'd modify them at least slightly
Genevieve Yan
07:06:03
Angela and Jim - Thank you so much for sharing these resources and spending this time teaching us! I learned a lot today.
mary woo
07:06:09
of course. I just don’t want them to copy by screen shot my newly made questions
Kent McCorkle
07:06:21
You should google and check ;)

07:07:17
Please keep in mind that the more you lock down a student’s browser the more difficult it will be for those who use assistive technology (screen readers, magnification, text to speech software).
