Improving ECE and CD Instruction with Video Resources - Shared screen with speaker view
Good afternoon from Santa Monica College. -Laura Manson
Hi, Jen from Chandler-Gilbert Community College in AZ
Hi Everyone! Mari, CSU Channel Islands
Hello, from East Los Angeles College
Hello from Ventura College
Hello, Mary Latta from Cabrillo, Mission and Foothill College - Freeway flyer
What is the name of the grant that you received for this OER Initiative?
Hi Everyone, Lisa Gerber from Cabrillo College
Will we receive a copy of this powerpoint?
Yes, it will be part of the recorded presentation
Hello Cathy Peshlakai from University of Nevada Reno Extension
if you are outside California, you might not be to join. but they will be put on Canvas commons.
I was not able to join in washington
Where is Canvas commons located?
If we don't have CANVAS can we still use the commons?
I've tried to enroll in the course using both my campus accounts (emails and the passwords) and wasn't able to join either. I am in CA using canvas for both campuses.
I have the same issue as Lauren Chase mentioned unable to have access to these courses. Thank you,
I did log in and got an “Access Denied” message once I was logged in to the Cabrillo account. I could see it when I was logged out, but not logged in.
It may be something on our end then.
Let me follow up with the "tech" side of things and see what we need to fix. So keep that URL handy.
the course is not in the commons? What name should I search for
I don't think it's been loaded into the Commons yet as we had some additional work we are hoping to add.
Can you send an email out to all meeting participants when you do that?
We should be able to as you had to register. Sorry for the technical issues!!
Wow - very nicely done. Thank you very much for sharing.
No worries. I appreciate the detail
It does seem like it is not open to outside organizations. I can open Canvas but my credentials are not accepted for this specific course template.
I found one of Amanda’s courses by searching commons for CDEV 100!
I can see it on Commons and all fo the details, but not once I logged in.
there are 3 of us from Arizona - we are all in
I think people can see it, but just not joing.
Thank you for your hard work, it looks awesome! Looking forward to see the link accessing shells.
Is this specific content built for a semester course?
Think of it more like a resource library. There are many items and you can use them where they fit in your class.
The books live in LibreText independent of the courses at: https://socialsci.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Early_Childhood_Education
Found the commons in Oregon, but it wanted username and password - can other states use it?
Cathryn, what June said. But College of the Canyons is working on full online courses for 7 of these 8 courses.
If we pull something over, are the attributions for the source on the page already?
Let me do some digging, Maidie.
The course link goes to CCCONLINEED.instructure.com versus https://learn.canvas.net — since I don’t have an account for CCCONLINEED I can’t login and join. I think that’s the issue.
Thanks to you!! :)
California is the BEST
Are there specific video available for child observations?
Could you show a QR code again?
So according to Canvas: Canvas Commons is available in all Free For Teacher accounts, so you can access the materials by opening your own Free For Teachers account...
Mary "Susan" Homma
I am denied access through Canvas for ASCCC OERI CDEV110. Did you say we would have access soon?
yes I got into 110
I got in through CCCONLINEED.instructure.com
I am able to see all the courses, but I think that is because I have taken courses through @one and have an account
Mary "Susan" Homma
This is Mary Homma from Saddleback, I was denied access through my Canvas account. I am very interested in Health, Safety, and Nutrition. Thanks.
So, it looks like those that are using the @ONE / CCCONLINEED.instructure.com, are not having issues. But everyone else is...
Are there restrictions in the free Canvas site such as limited number of students?
I don't think people teach from Canvas, just develop their courses to then export to their school. This would be just to have access to the course
link to Canvas Commons: https://lor.instructure.com/search
How diverse are the videos?
This is amazing! Thank you to everyone who has contributed!
This is all so incredible! Are we free to share the link to anyone and everyone?
with the limited ability of Google translate, is there any chance of getting the OER texts well translated into Spanish and other languages?
Are the LibreTexts the same as the OER ECE textbooks that were produced recently?
I reviewed a spanish Observation book.
How can I get the Child Family and Community in Spanish?
I am not able to access practicum. It says login and then says unauthorized access.
That is wonderful news about having some of the texts in Spanish!!! Thanks to all for all of this work!
Irma Gonzalez-Cuadros @ Butte College is working on texts in Spanish, it is not an easy process (as you can imagine!)
We know there is an access issue with the Practicum Shell. We are working on it :)
Thank you for clarifying. :)
you mentioned a google group, how do we get invited to this?
You join the Google Groups. I will post some links and share in a sec.
If people have additional resourcess such as videos, are you interested in them? Should they add through the google group?
If we just want to use the OER resources, should we use the LIBRE site for access?
Great questions, Lauren and Maidie. Let me answer you in a moment.
General ECE ZTC/OER Google Group: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/early-childhood-education-oer-collaboration
Time is of the essence now as the CCCs might be closing in California. At Merritt we are trying to figure out what to do in that case.
Then each book has it's own group. I will post more links in a moment.
Do you have a "how to" guide to access shells and transfer to the free canvas, then to our own courses?
CA developed videos, including our amazing diverse population! Perhaps done at our lab school settings
It would be terrific if a URL was provided along with the QR code for each video.
Or, develop new videos at our lab schools…celebrating CA diverse population
I am working on attaching or connecting learning objectives/ outcomes (SLO's) from CAP outlines to content, chapters/units/modules, assignments, assessments.
All books on LIBRE site?
heading out to teach…thank you so much!!!
Hi Carrie That sounds like a potentially great resource to share if you feel like it!
If the videos are from Early Ed U, do our colleges need agreements with them?
Will do! And will seek feedback...
thank you, great one spot resource
very excited about your work!
Thank you so much for sharing these resources!!
Appreciate all of your efforts and supporting students throughout our system!
Thanks for all the hard work. Signing off now.
I logged in late, I need support with viewing the Modules in CANVAS
THANK YOU!! Are are all amazing!!!!!
If you need support reviewing Spanish Books, I will be happy to collaborate with the group that is in charge of the project. This is Edilma Serna.
