Melissa - Try Remind as an app that can text students

Melissa, our faculty are using an app called Remind to communicate with their students. It sends SMS messages to their phones

At SJCC we called over 1800 of our CE students. They faced many challenges. Many want to go back to the classrooms to have the hand on experiences.

Are faculty using Synchronous and Asynchronous instruction and discussions?

Yes our students are definitely looking forward to in person labs, simulations only go so far.

Synchronous training is working much better than asynchronous. My students do not like asynchronous training. The students like the interaction with the class and instructor and they do not get that in asynchronous. I am recording my lectures so someone can watch it later, in an asynchronous format.

Jon, our faculty are using synchronous instruction. They say the students like it much better because it is interactive and makes them feel more of a sense of connection like they had in class.

All instructors planning to continue online teaching must complete OTC Certification training and meet approval by January 2021. Teacher training is a 4-5 week boot camp Canvas training. Faculty not currently approved will need to set aside time to get the training.

Almost all of the colleges in the Inland Empire/Desert region are 100% online for fall term

Not official yet at SJCC, but we have been asked to do a plan A and plan B

OC is moving online too

WE must follow the local government guidelines and union negotiation etc..

Saddleback is 100% including legacy courses.

Our goal is to return to pre-pandemic instructional strategies. However, the forced transition to temporary online training has opened our eyes and forced our hand to try new technology that I am sure we will continue to use/fold in for future courses.

Reducing 20 to 10, the conversation of compensation needs to be involved.

I would think the FED's would have funds for technology. We need smartboards for lecture and all lab classes

I had to get 5G from Sprint to maintain bandwidth. I pay $80 for unlimited.

COD is offering 100% online. Faculty have the choice to teach synchronous or asynchronous. In the schedule, the student can see what they chose and register according to what their preference is

Our boot camps were canceled for now - for Welding

A point of consideration on our campus for some courses, is enhanced screening (to replace social distancing) this would require a single point of entrance, monitoring and query about symptoms, and facilities sanitizing between classes.

But allow all students in a class to go back in.
