Thank you for the announcement.
and Paul Beckworth from History!
exam integrity is a big concern of mine
need to unmute
I'd like to hear more about the testing options...
I as well would like options for exam integrity
The Academic Technology team is going to address those concerns tomorrow at the Open House that is in the L160 from 1:00 - 5:00.
Party in L160!!!
@beth: agreed, I think many of us have similar concerns. There is proctorio as an option but ultimately, that is the big advantage of these get together sessions. Hopefully, as more dicussions arise we can share what solutions we come up with.
Yes, it's party! Food will be provided!
Hopefully, not a buffet...…...
I've done a little research this week on converting word documents to test banks for Canvas. In a nutshell, Canvas doesn't provide this capability, but... You can use the 30 day free license of Respondus to do it. I haven't tried it out yet, but it appears to be an option.
@Andrew, 1pm-5pm tomorrow
@Andrew, also happening until 2pm today if you have time after you hop off this Zoom!
Jenny Grohol here. All should come! I have been sitting with faculty helping them set up their courses. This is a great opportunity for one on one help. Also, if you can not make it, don't forget that YouTube also has training videos.
I'll be helping out tomorrow too and can assist with Proctorio.
Thanks Jenny! I did not even think about YouTube as a reference. Genius!
@dana: great! I'll be there tomorrow and would like to look into proctorio. Party at L160 it is!
@Ximena - Party! I'll bring the Purell!
Ha! @Dana..love it
So I'm confused, are all the classes going to be online?
What ideas are being talked over for uploading tests to Canvas
Todd: many questions earlier re: Exam Integrity
Related to that, is there a deadline by which people need to go online?
I have sent three requests to sign up for ConferZoom but haven't got any approval yet. Is there any way to speed up the process?
Just curious, has anyone else had delays in getting their conferzoom account? It's been over 24 hours for me so I am guessing they are just overwhelmed with the new requests.
charter is providing free internet to k-12 and college students. https://www.1011now.com/content/news/Spectrum-to-offer-free-WiFi-to-college-K-12-students-impacted-by-closures-568778921.html
So it is an option to keep my chem labs f2f?
Regarding Zoom, Can I just post the meeting ID and reuse it over and over when I teach as well as use online office hours, or does it need to be different for each meeting?
Do we know how long this will last or is it indefinite? And I work in the tutoring center, so will that be open still?
That is awesome, Nicky!
@Nigie: I have sent 2 and emailed their support. They replied back that it is taking up to 72 hours and I have not received mine yet either.
Spectrum is also providing some free internet options I have heard.
@Lisa Harding Yes, if you have a Pro-ConferZoom account, you can have a dedicated office
If there is a hard closure will we still have access to our labs so we can video lead a lab to our students?
Thank you Sonia
Nicky, will link to free WiFi be added to website?
Techsmith is providing free Camtasia and Snagit: https://discover.techsmith.com/remote-techsmith/
@Dana, Thanks again! You keep coming through for me!
@ximena Many here on campus have heard that Zoom is having some delays in provide accounts. Some people are getting messages that it could take up to 72 hours.
@ximena: Thank you! I
@ Jason: thanks for that info, good to know.
so no food in L160 today, but food tomorrow?
So far, I am aware Charter Spectrum and Comcast are offering free internet. Details on their websites
Adobe Spark is a great free tool for creating quick attractive videos.
@Andrew Bond, there is definitely food in L160 right now. :)
On the creating “tests” on CANVAS, if you create exam questions in the “test bank,” can that transfer to multiple sections? Or do you have to make each exam per section; the pain is typing in the questions/answers
ConferZoom does take up to two days after creating an account to be able to get all features.
You can easily transfer material from one class page to the other.
@Oliver Canvas will allow you to copy items from course to course
@Wade Ellis, yes for now. physical labs, performance classes, or those that will be particularly difficult to move to a virtual environment are the current exceptions. However, that could change as the situation develops
You should be able to “import” a test, Oliver
What ideas are being talked over for uploading test banks to Canvas?
You want to contact your publisher, they will walk you through how to do it. The process is different for each publisher
For Veterans, we are having our tutors online as of Monday, but they are still available for walk in and appointment.
Here is the Comcast website for free or reduced internet: https://internetessentials.com/
@Jenny THanks, I don't mean publisher banks, I mean our own tests (ie word format to Canvas)
Thank you Chris
You can also enter in each test question one by one in the quiz tab
It takes some time, but it is totally doable
@Jenny I suspect there is a way to do it bulk. I heard Respondus does that. Has anyone used Respondus?
Will M & O be open? I will need to print material for my classes ISP classes.
@Jenny: not for faculty with many class preps, that should be a last resort imo.
@heidi, yes - for now!
Thanks @Lesley Bonds!
@ Dana I bet there is. Maybe there is a YouTube video showing you how to do it
If anyone is interested in writing a piece on how BC has managed the transition in a student-centered way, with a sort of grassroots, whole-campus strategy, contact me :) Lesley.bonds@Bakersfieldcollege.edu would love to publish something with you
Maybe start filming video tutorials now...
Great idea, Lesley!
ScreenCastify is a great free tool for screen casts too
Screencast-o-matic is another great tool: https://screencast-o-matic.com/
Thank you @Sonya!
I have been asked about automatic captions or transcripts with ConferZoom. Is that an option?
Great idea Olivia that will help student with their potential stree level as well...Thank You
On Sunday I have scheduled two ConferZoom meeting times my class - to capture those students that are available. We will see how it goes.
With zoom caption, you have to copy and paste it into a document, it wont close caption on the video (last I checked a few weeks ago)
Thank you, Victor! Great ideas from everyone!
Thank you to all the presenters for sharing, these ideas really help!
What is the # again?
Thanks to everyone on the chat for great ideas too!
