All the resources Paul just talked about for food and housing, are also on our webpage resource page that he is showing now. There are many resources listed to help you!
The link to the resources page is https://www.cypresscollege.edu/coronavirus/resources-students/
do we plan to finish the semester online?
Christina, we haven’t made this decision yet, but hope to have an update before you leave for spring break.
We will post the PowerPoint slides following the town hall.
It will be in the “Updates” section at https://www.cypresscollege.edu/coronavirus/
So far, Cypress Professors and faculty are doing a great job despite the challenges that we are all experiencing in light of the current situation. Thank you very much!

oh nice sweet
Many of my students have limited mobile data or no internet access. Do we know yet if and when the campus will have wifi available in the parking lot(s)?
Mihoko we are looking to allow students into lot 1 in limited numbers (within cars) where the campus has added extra wifi. It should be done and ready within the next few days
Mihoko, our IT director, Peter Maharaj, and his team are working on adding wifi hot spots in Lot One. We hope to have an update letting students know how and when they can come to Lot One to access this wifi, while also limiting access on campus and keeping people safe. We will update you before you leave for spring break. Its coming!
Thanks you, Treisa. That is great news. It's so sad to lose good students that cannot connect. Yesterday, one of my excellent students hit his phone's data cap during class and had to leave.
Mihoko, there are also internet providers that are offering services to students.
Also, until the college's solutions are ready, there are a number of internet service companies offering discounted service for low-income families. AT&T, Spectrum, and Xfinity are also keeping their public WiFi hotspots open for public use. There's more information about it here: https://www.cypresscollege.edu/coronavirus/faq-students/
@Marcie, yesterday my husband drove around and discovered that there are no true Xfinity hotspots in our are or around Cypress. Rather than xfinitywifi they are cablewifi, which Xfinity rep said do not support the free offer.
It's amazing how many things our students do with just their phones!
The Spectrum wifi hotspots did work. Thanks for the link.
Daniel, I know what you mean. For so many students, the phone is their only internet access.
@Mihoko That's a good note. We appreciate the legwork and you sharing that information.
hi, I had a question regarding the summer session. Will the students that plan to attend school during the summer also learn online as well?
Thank you Dr. Shilling. That is very good news.
Paulina: we will be having a summer session and our hope is to do this in a traditional format, but we do not yet know. This directive will depend on how our state is doing with flattening the curve of the virus. We start our summer registration in a few weeks so would hope we might have news to share with you before your registration, but can’t fully answer your question right now because we just don’t know. We promise to keep you informed as well as we can!
@Paulina There are currently no plans to cancel summer classes. The tentative start date for summer 2020 registration is Tuesday, April 28. Students will be notified if there are any changes.
When will registration dates for Summer be sent to students?
Thank you both for answering my question.
Nicole, an email will be sent to students that includes registration information for summer within the next week.
I'm just so proud to be a part of this! Our people are so committed to helping students!
Craig - these are amazing! What a fantastic group!!
What things are students struggling with that we haven’t addressed?
yes, I agree. Thank you for sharing Craig.
Those quotes really inspire me.
Thanks to all the faculty for participating! Great responses!
Thank you for your efforts.
Thank you, This helped me as much as the students.
That is great to hear!
Will this .ppt be available? I'd like to borrow some of the slides with quotes.
Thank you for sharing, Craig. We are CYPRESS proud!
If students have trouble logging in to databases, make sure and text a library for help!
Thank you everyone for all your efforts!
@Richard: Yes, this PowerPoint will be available on our website at cypresscollege.edu/coronavirus
Will Japanese Genki textbooks be available via E-Textbooks?
