Hello everyone - welcome! We are glad you are here with us today!
Hello, thank you for having us
Hi everyone! Thank you TODD AND TEAM for making all of these changes and keeping our college tip-top. I love when we all come together to make things like this happen. You all rock!
Hello BC Family
Maary Jo Pasek
Events Department misses everyone
Todd, you are unbelievably incredible!!! Thank you for who you are, what you do and how you do it!
@Marisa, @ Todd - ditto!
Thank you for the kind comments! I appreciate the support.
Thank you Todd you're awesome 👌
Food Services Department misses all our BC Family and team members. Thank you to all who are still turning the gears of the campus.
I miss food service. I have no one cooking for me.
President Christian is right on target. KEDC just hosted a KERN Post -Covid19 economy virtual brownbag and they predicted an L shape recovery.
For those of you on video, we do have a live captionist. On your Zoom toolbar you can turn them on, if that would be useful. Click on the CC button and choose "Show Subtitle"
Fortunately (?) I have full classes and full waitlists for Fall 2020
Reassure our student that they can be successful...
@Teresa, Thank you for putting the "ask" to all faculty
Faculty: you can check your rosters in Starfish to see if you have students who haven't yet registered or who haven't hit the momentum points. Starfish auto-raises some of those flags for you so your work will then only to ping the student and see if they can take one more class. We highly recommend promoting the Golden Four for ADT students - English, math, critical thinking, and communication. There are many courses open.
program mapper is a great tool
Yes, @Isabel. Program Mapper here: https://programmap.bakersfieldcollege.edu/academics
@Billie Jo, I agree. If anyone needs help accessing Starfish to view your rosters and make contact, feel free to shoot me an email and i'll get you setup with a one-on-one tutorial

Students look up to their discipline faculty. Faculty reaching out to the students in their classes, specifically majors, have the most impact on student progression and completion. :)
@Andrea, thank you for the reminder. @Everyone, FTES stands to Full-Time Equivalent Students
Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act
Bakersfield College's growth averaged about 5-6 percent a year over the past 6 years. The normal growth increase during an economic downturn is around 5-6 percent. Are we preparing for a 12-13 percent increase over the next year???
The 50% law is for the district as a whole.
FON = Faculty Obligation Number... a requirement set by the state
Red bar means what?
@Richard, wouldn't that be wonderful. It's possible that the online component is currently making people hesitant. Hopefully, we can come up with creative synchronous workshops or other ways to help students feel more comfortable with online learning.
Rich, historically, there has always been a growth during rough economic times. Our current enrollment numbers are indicative of a temporary disruption in what students are used to at BC. Once we help them through the shifting classroom environment, we should be fine. The KEY as a guided pathways college is to HELP students and GUIDE them through the change process.
@Aricia - that reminds me of one of my favorite movie lines from Bambi- can you guess it?
ALL of us should reach out to our students and support them — guiding and encouraging them to continue on their academic journey
I have a number of students that told me that need f2f.
@zav you make a great point, our students need to know BC is still here, still open, and ready to assist.
Wifi expansion is Measure J funded.
Thank you for that clarification, Zav. That's exactly what I've been hearing from students: The shift to online was jarring and they're not hesitant to add classes with the uncertainty. I know I have been spending a lot of time reassuring students and helping them find their resources so they feel comfortable with these recent adjustments.
@Gayle, be sure to flag any students who need technology or other materials at home as a student of concern with Student Life. @Nicky and his team are working with financial aid to get each student what they need.
Still using old budget allocation formula
@Krista, we have more chromebooks/laptops on the way (they're in high demand everywhere so they're coming in waves). Jennifer Achan and her financial aid team have also made some meaningful changes to account for laptops as a supply for qualifying students.
@Budget Committee members - thank you for all you do!
Please send any questions through the chat
One way we should be saving money right now - less paper use.
don't forget, any new incoming freshmen should register for Bridge
We’ll probably see a surge in registration in August when we will know what things will be like
Bridge to BC: ACDV B55
@Isabel - yay Bridge to BC; Bridge to BC will help students become more comfortable with Online learning:)
are lay-offs/furloughs anticipated for staff?
@Meg - thank you for that question:)
Counseling is taking a Growth Mindset angle with our students, they can find the tools and services needed to be successful
If held harmless revenue should cover existing payroll.
I am ready!
@Dr.Deb- you're not going anywhere! our students need you : )
Thank you, everyone! New set up is great!
Y’all make budgeting fun
