Good morning everyone! Welcome to our Town Hall. We will start in a few minutes, just to allow those still signing on to join us.
Is the campus open so I can empty out my locker?
is there a way to meet with financial aid for next semester
Is there any updates for what is going on for the summer 2020 semester?
What do we do if our class has not contacted us nor published our class on canvas?
@Martina: Please contact Campus Safety for assistance with your locker. The number is (714) 484-7387.
@Tiffany: To meet with Financial Aid, please visit cypress.craniumcafe.com.
Tyler, Martina I've brought up these issues to Mr. Garcia and we are working on it.
Thank you David
Will summer classes be open? if so, when is registration date?
cheers! Thank you
@Ken yes, we still plan on having a summer session. Registration is scheduled to begin April 28.
For now, Tyler, carry on with the semester as normal. BEH is still the same, and you're veteran benefits will be unaffected.
@Tyler An email will be sent to students regarding registration for summer 2020 within the next couple of weeks.
Note that for second harvest you can only access the food if you have a car
If you go with a friend that is also in need in food they will only distribute one package of food
@Martina If you're struggling with getting in touch with a professor, please email the college at email@example.com with details and we will do what we can to assist you.

Upon summer registration, will classes be offered as online only or will we have the option to register for in-class as well assuming after June we will resume normal operations?.
We will be having a summer session and our hope is to do this in a traditional format, but we do not yet know. This directive will depend on how our state is doing with flattening the curve of the virus. We start our summer registration in a few weeks so would hope we might have news to share with you before your registration, but can’t fully answer your question right now because we just don’t know. We promise to keep you informed as well as we can!
This is a message for Joanna Schilling: One good thing that the court reporting program is being conducted by Zoom. For me it is an absolute blessing! For two years I have been driving back and forth for two from San Diego to participate in a program that has a low enrollment. The classes typically last one and 15 minutes, and it is so much better being online. I am seriously hoping the court reporting will permanently be an online program, giving other people outside of Orange country a chance to enroll in the program. There are no court reporting schools in San Diego.
I had to follow up at the clinic for on going treatment and medication. I don’t have medical insurance this is my only medical resource
what kind of compensation will be offered for those who have withdrawn from courses?
Thanks for your message, Debra: We will definitely share this with our court reporting faculty for consideration. Glad you’re having a good experience!
@Jose: The Cypress College Health Center will be available by phone to answer questions and provide referrals. It will also have limited hours for medicine dispensation. The Cypress College Health Center Advice Line is (714) 484-7361. Please leave a message; all messages will be answered.
Thank you, Mrs. Schilling for your response.
Hi, will Cypress College be considering pass/no pass classes for any courses? or maybe labs? I understand that other colleges have done this, but I am not sure if it would happen to CCC since we are a transfer school.
Hello, How can I see what classes are being offered for summer? And does FAFSA cover it?
@Student: We have to ensure transfer before implementing pass/no pass options.
@Megan We are encouraging students to give the new remote learning environment a chance before deciding to withdraw from courses. Please know that we are working hard to support your success. There is time between now and the withdrawal deadline (April 26) to give your courses your best effort and allow your faculty to fully transition. If you truly feel that you must withdraw, we will provide more information on refunds as soon as we can. We are continuing to coordinate implementation across the District.
@Johan: The summer schedule is not yet available. Please keep checking our site at www.cypresscollege.edu/schedule-of-classes-and-college-catalog/ for it.
Also as a student, I wanted to thank you guys, the administration and student team for addressing concerns as the numbers of affected people grow around our community, and for lessening the pressure on our backs during such a sensitive time. A thousand thanks to you all!
@Johan, yes, summer is covered with FAFSA
I love online classes.
I haven't had the opportunity to take my student ID photo. Such companies offer student monthly subscription plans like Amazon Prime, Apple Music, etc. Now that campus is closed, will I have to wait until further notice or what ways can i address this?
@Student thank you for those kind remarks! We thank our students, too, for all you have done (and for your patience) during this process of transitioning to online learning.
Even if one is asymptomatic, does remain a carrier for certain time or does the person continue to be e carrier?
If one is asymptomatic, doesn't that mean one's immune system is NOT responding to the virus and producing antibodies?
@Luis You should be able to get those discounts by using a student email address. If you don't have one, you may obtain one through myGateway.
I would like to drop a lab science class. What will my transcript reflect? Do I drop online or is a special form required due to the pandemic?
@debra. We are going to ask Marla to reply to this when she is done presenting.
Thank you, Marc.
There is a process fro dropping with a refund. We will get that info to yuo
thank you for talking about mental health. this is helpful for everyone. we need to keep talking about this.
Can the health center slides be sent out via email? I’d like to share this with my students who are unable to attend the town hall meeting. Thanks
@Jacquelyn The slides will be available on our site, under Updates, at cypresscollege.edu/coronavirus
Very true! I am guilty of not checking my messages.
I got the the video a lil later so what Is going to happen with graduation
@Autumn Commencement will be virtual on May 22; however, those graduating this semester can also choose to be part of next year's in-person ceremony.

Student Services staff will be reaching out to all students who have enrolled in classes during Spring 2020. For students considering withdrawing from a course, our staff will discuss options with you, review the implications to students on financial aid or other program/academic eligibility, and perhaps refer you to counselors to discuss your educational plan. We call this outreach effort "Cypress Cares: Focusing on Your Completion!" Only 6 weeks of the term left and we want to make sure you consider "hanging in there" but be mindful that the last day to drop is April 26. We are here to help you, guide you, and support you during this time. Buen Cypress: We take this journey together!
I had a DSS online application question. There’s a part that asks if a student has taken assessment tests. Then it states the following: If you checked yes, you must visit the DSS office to complete an alternate assessment petition in order to receive priority registration. With campus being closed, what are we supposed to do in this case to receive priority registration?
I think the volume cut out
Ok its back now
@Jose Please reach out to DSS directly through their virtual front counter. The link is at our student resources page cypresscollege.edu/coronavirus/resources-students as well as at the DSS landing page at https://www.cypresscollege.edu/services/disability-support-services-dss/
does our school email forward to our personal email address automatically?
Hi Jose, this is Celeste Phelps, Director of DSS. You’re also welcome to email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’d be happy to help answer your questions. Thank you.
@Martina We send emails to the email address on file. You can check/update your email address through myGateway.
Hello, I am Mango from the CACERES club, before school ended I was in the process of getting a refund for materials I bought. Are we going to be able to be reimbursed for money spent next semester even though it will be a different fiscal year. Also are clubs able to have funds we currently have for next semester since we did not have an opportunity to do anything this semester?
thank you :)
if you have no symptoms, that means you don't know you are a carrier
Great job, fellow faculty. Keep it up. Im proud to be representing you!
Remember: this virus is not going away. Unless there is a vaccine, the threat will continue...scary.
Thank you faculty!
Thank you faculty!!!
Thank you VRC!!!
Thank you so much, Craig! We appreciate you!
