yes, can hear you
I'm not seeing your screen anymore
Did anyone else loose the feed?
I can't see the screen either
Same here, can't see video
after the new Dastrup book, Ch 9 & 10 then gone
Cady, can you start again with the Lumen Learning book, please? Thanks
I recently tweeted Adam Dastrup. He said “The Physical Geography textbook should be fully updated by June. Will include the ability for students to download the book in multiple formats (e.g., Kindle, Nook, iBook, PDF).” In a recent email exchange with Ritter, he said he didn’t want to go OER - it is copyrighted because he has spent thousands creating the book and he doesn’t want to give it away with a Creative Commons license.
We lost the sharing video for that section ...
Thanks for that update Jennifer.
You bet. If y’all want to help me lobby Ritter to go Creative Commons, that would be cool. I don’t want to lose that resource, but I’m glad Dastrup’s version is evolving!
Same - I’m working on a lab manual but not ready to share yet. Will probably publish one-off labs to Canvas Commons this summer.
Cady - will you share some of your labs to Canvas Commons or do you have plans to share labs?
He also has a full course in Canvas Commons
Does the OpenGeography allow you to contribute to it? It seems a lot of instructors are creating lab manuals, figured we should all contribute :)
This is an awesome overview. I wonder if there is a way for those authoring materials or already using these resources to connect on a future geography webinar to discuss pedagogy, share resources etc.?
a basic WRG Book that I use as background is Caitlin Finlayson's WRG http://caitiefinlayson.com/WRGTextbook.html#[30,%22XYZ%22,91.801,696.959,null]
I've just completed writing a Physical Geography OER text that students can access as a PDF. If anyone wants access please email me at email@example.com
its basic, without a lot of bells and whisitle
Caitie Finlayson and several geographers interested in OER are planning a session on efficacy and outcomes of OER in geography for the next AAG. If you have research you want to present, consider contacting her.
Is there a section or group meeting at the Big Bear meeting next week?
I’m in if we want to meet up. I’m planning to share research on OER in my classroom.
Thank you so much, Cady. Getting us together is a great way to learn
Cady, do you use these books exclusively in class?
Thank you! Great overview!
Or do you supplement them with publisher matieral?
(sorry for mis-spelling)
OK, thanks. I just started this year, and still have Pearson MasteringGeography as HW and EC. Thinking of eliminating them in a year or two.
It is difficult to transition.
I find that my students are OK with spending $45 on the Mastering in stead of the full cost of textbooks (or even renting them).
GCC here in SoCal uses a low cost label as well as the ZTC I think our limit is under $40
This has been great. Thank you so much. I'll see some of y'all next week.
Thanks so much Cady
Thanks much Cady! This is is great.
I would love to hear if anyone finds materials for California Geography in the near future
Our faculty have asked for CA as well.
Thank you !
Thank you, Cady
