48:42
The DE data is exciting … will colleges be getting our individual survey reports soon?

48:43
@LeBaron could you provide a brief update on what is going on with CA participation in SARA?

49:00
Terrific

49:13
DE data. Thanks for sharing with us./

51:20
Which colleges are participating?

54:11
@LeBaron - glad for OEI to assist in any way

56:15
@one

56:25
It’s the @one group of OEI

56:54
I have several faculty asking if the online conference will be recorded.

57:02
Yes

57:10
woo hoo! Go OER

57:19
Can anyone attend?

57:28
Links will be sent to all participants, and we'll make them available on the cccdeco.org site

57:36
Yes, anyone can attend if they register

58:59
Can we share the link to the conference with our entire faculty?

59:07
Yes

59:12
Thanks!

01:04:27
Jan 24 and Jan 31—at 1pm

01:04:32
It looks like that link is for a Zoom chat. Is that correct?

01:05:31
Helen. I love these. They are very helpful.

01:05:55
Got it. Thanks.

01:05:59
How can we look ahead to see what topics are coming up?

01:06:30
Where is the archive page? The one for this group?

01:06:43
Helen, these sessions are excellent! Keep up the good work!

UDOIT folks at UofF are great to work with

01:11:22
Any discsussion of the Tech Center hosting this for us?

01:11:36
@Will - no but great idea!

01:12:05
Tlak to our IT about installing on a campus server, will run faster

01:12:14
*talk to you

01:12:17
your

01:12:18
Does it check Word, PPT files? PDFs?

01:12:24
No

01:13:14
Our IT could probably not support an Open Source PHP based tool :(

01:13:28
@Jon - good point, but might be helpful for colleges that don't have an IT person capable of setting it up

01:13:28
Do you know how much server space is needed?

01:14:01
Our AV manager installed it on a Heroku server which if you watch the youtube video recommends

01:15:57
How much does this do that the Canvas Accessibility Tool does not currently cover?

01:16:37
The conrast checker portion is awesome

01:16:39
@OEI or HighTech Center - Would OEI or HighTech Center consider providing server space for UDOIT so that all CA community college can use it?

01:16:52
The decorative image check box is back when adding an image in the regular way I believe - saw it yesterday

01:16:57
The decoritive image check box is coming to the RCE in the next production release.

01:17:12
@Rebecca - IT says depends on activity level, but ours is about 300MB for files plus about 140MB for the database

01:17:23
It is already there when you add a new image from the Images sidebar.

01:17:32
Thank you.

01:17:32
Yes Anna that’s where it wsa

01:18:06
OEI will be discussing this and other accessibility tools in the Accessibility Workgroup. I’m not sure about the server space. Will check. It’s not what we normally do…. which doesn’t mean we won’t.

01:18:24
@Anna - Canvas told us it was Corrine's work that was the impetus for that correction - yay Corrine!

01:18:34
@Jim - It will be added to the image option from the RCE, saw it in the beta release notes earlier this week.

01:18:54
Great, Anna - hadn’t seen that, thanks

01:19:05
That's AWESOME!!

01:19:05
I thought Blackboard Ally was on the cards, especially given its ability to generate instance-wide reports to help sysadmins decide where to direct interventions for support

01:19:15
@Greg - Ally has been pulled

01:19:58
@Jim - https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13987-canvas-beta-release-notes-2018-01-15#jive_content_id_Decorative_Image_Checkbox

01:20:02
Thanks @CCC DECO. We’re looking at it locally so would love to know why it was pulled. Can that be shared here?

01:20:05
lack of successful contract negotiations

01:20:21
BB Ally is negotiating a contract with the Foundation for colleges for individually contract for the service. OEI will not be having a contract to support paying for colleges’ use of Ally.

01:20:36
Thanks @Barbara

01:20:41
@greg & others - $$$$

01:21:26
@Barbara. Thank you. UDOIT requires server space and it could be cloud-based, therefore it would make sense to centralize it somewhere.

01:21:42
Fresno’s rate for Ally was almost $50k/year and did not include the other 2 colleges in its district

01:22:44
Don't foget that blue, red, and green are the colors for those that are colored blind.

01:23:18
OEI could not scale up Ally use for the Consortium. BTW - Fresno did have very positive things to say about the actual Ally software. It’s the $$

01:24:14
Super helpful, thanks!

01:24:23
great help

01:24:28
blog post URL?

01:24:38
Good stuff, Corrine!

01:25:50
Nice background Barbara!

01:26:10
Has anyone used the Canvas accessibility tool?

01:26:33
@Cynthia - Yes.

01:26:41
@Cynthia, I just started and it's pretty easy. Not sure what all it checks though.

01:26:57
@Cynthia - I think Corrine uses it for individual pages. Feel free to reach out to her at chaverinen@santarosa.edu

01:27:07
Cynthia, that’s the tool that is part of the rich content editor?

01:27:08
It has some limitations, but it's a good start. And it's getting better with every update.

01:27:25
@Dan https://community.canvaslms.com/groups/accessibility/blog/2017/09/21/comparison-of-canvas-accessibility-lti-tools

01:27:27
I have used it but found it made suggestions to alter html which facility would freak over so I haven’t introduced it

01:27:28
@Cynthia - it’s not accurate for alt text currently (doesn’t indicate error for alt text with file format)

01:27:30
Blog post article comparing UDOIT and Ally:

01:28:01
Thanks @Barbara!

01:28:32
Canvas accessibility tool does not catch many items, such as lists, links, empty headers, and even some times ALT text

01:28:36
Thanks Barbara and Corrine!

01:28:51
Thanks everyone!

01:28:57
Thanks and bye!
