Panel III - The Effects of Colorism on Latina and Black Youth Panel
Bakersfield College’s Latinas Unidas and Latina Leaders of Kern County are partnering to host a series on race and diversity relations in Kern County. Local leaders will present their experiences and perspectives on race and diversity relations in Kern County. These
panel discussions aim to unify and strengthen our community in the interest of future generations. Let’s celebrate diversity and continue to shed light on race and equity issues that affect us all.

According to the Pew Research Center, Latino and Black youth with darker skin tones are six times more likely to face discrimination due to the color of their skin. From small comments about darker skin being unattractive to the larger effects colorism has on mate selection and life chances, panelists will speak about colorism in the Latinx and Black community.
